“Research into initial driver training has shown that there are significant advantages in learning to drive on an “intensive” driving course as opposed to by means of the more traditional “weekly” driving lessons. Intensive courses increase learning efficiency as lessons are longer in duration and are taken over a significantly shorter period. Motivation is also increased as the student has the imminent prospect of getting a driving licence. As a result, fewer lessons are needed in total and the overall cost of driving tuition is reduced.

Courses need to be carefully planned. An initial assessment of the student’s driving ability should be made and a learning plan produced from it. For maximum efficiency lessons should be given in the driving test area and in such a way that the student reaches driving test standard immediately before taking the driving test.”
